theimaginarybody

theimaginarybody is an award-winning theatre and film company. We are interested in creating theatre and film with a focus on playful visual styles, often using magical realism to stretch the boundaries between reality and fiction. Both of theimaginarybody‘s plays Food and 100 have been developed in a process that combined writing and devising. Starting from a theme or story, the plays developed over a series of workshops with actors and a parallel writing process.

Our new show Food premiered at the Traverse Theatre during the 2006 Edinburgh Festival where it won a Fringe First award, received a string of four-star reviews and enjoyed a sell-out run. Food will tour the UK from May – July 2007, followed by a London run at Battersea Arts Centre in July 2007 and an international tour during 2008.

Food tells the story of top chef Frank Byrne who has one ambition in life – to win the coveted third Michelin star for his restaurant. When he finally gets it, he becomes a world celebrity, adored and scrutinized by the media. But reaching the top comes at a price...

Set in the turbulent world of celebrity chefs, Food is a journey inside a man’s mind. It explores the compulsive nature of perfectionism and the sacrifices we make to realise our dreams. When you aim high, you've only got further to fall.
