Connection, Creativity and Resilience In Spring of 2020 Living Pictures is hosting the rescheduled 3-day workshop with award winning and ground-breaking theatre maker, director and writer Polly Teale. Applications are now open. CONNECTION,CREATIVITY AND RESILIENCE: USING OUR INNER LIVES AS A RICH RESOURCE A WORKSHOP LED BY POLLY TEALE For: Directors and Theatre Makers DATES: 6th – 8th March 2020 – please note this is a 3-day workshop. TIMES: 10am – 5:30pm (daily). VENUE: FH Space, Forrest Hill, London. The venue is fully accessible. COST: £150 (full price); £125.00 (for previous Living Picture participants, Young Vic Directors Programme and SDUK members); £100 (a limited number of spaces for students / unemployed; proof of eligibility). Each of us has a unique life experience and history, which we bring with us into the rehearsal room. Participants will explore how their own story impacts the way they relate to others and experience the world. Through games, drama exercises, art, movement and impro, this workshop encourages playfulness and curiosity, building awareness of both our innate creativity, and the ways we can sabotage ourselves. Learning to recognise, explore and release unhelpful patterns increases creative potential, empowering us to take risks and grow. We will explore how to use our inner lives as a rich creative resource, how our own conflicts and shadow parts can help us step into another’s shoes, empathise, and deepen character exploration. We will work with the language of objectives and obstacles to understand how a character's history and psychic wounds create powerful drives and defences. We will explore the tension between what is revealed and what is hidden, accessing our shared experience of universal emotional states to support compassionate exploration of the characters’ internal conflicts. We will work with difference, becoming curious about ourselves and others and how we are shaped by our circumstances and the bigger system. Coming from this place of shared humanity we will ask ourselves what we want our work to communicate and how we want to create change in the world. Polly Teale was Artistic Director of touring theatre company Shared Experience, with productions she wrote and directed regularly transferring to the West End and touring internationally. These included the award-winning trilogy: Bronte; Jane Eyre and After Mrs Rochester (winner Best Director Evening Standard Awards, and Time Out Best West End Production). She also wrote and directed Mine, Speechless and Mermaid as well as directing productions at the Royal Court, National Theatre and Young Vic. Her plays continue to be performed nationally and internationally and are available from Nick Hern books. Her work is on the school syllabus. Polly Teale is trained in arts psychotherapy (MA in Arts Psychotherapy from the Institute for the Arts in Therapy and Education (Distinction). Member of BACP and PAC). She runs workshops with both students and staff in drama schools (Guildhall, Central, East 15, Drama Centre, RADA, BRIT) and runs an arts-based counselling service at The International School of Screen Acting, and the British American Dramatic Academy. She has worked within the NHS with survivors of sexual abuse, as well as with homeless groups, and prisoners. She has a private practice in South East London.
