Developing Your Craft Directing Director Coaching “I learnt a huge amount from Living Pictures. I took part in a movement course the company ran and attended directing classes taught by Elen Bowman. Elen is a fantastic teacher, who stimulated and supported my personal and professional development over the year. The classes inspired me in my creative work and helped me reflect on my life beyond work, helping me to understand myself more as an artist, as well as instilling indispensible practical skills.” – Matthew Evans (Director, JMK Award winner 2010) Elen’s coaching practice began at the Royal Court Theatre in 1999 with Katie Mitchell, Ian Rickson and James MacDonald. The teaching stems from a Stanislavsky-based methodology which incorporates a holistic approach to directors learning. Elen draws her teaching from her training with Sam Kogan/Maria Knebel, Mike Alfreds, Sandford Meisner practice and other creative and holistic practices.
